Cleaning for clinics, dental offices and childcare settings

Island Commercial Cleaning services dental offices, medical clinics, private practice, childcare and private schools across mid-Vancouver Island, to a written scope. Childcare settings carry a record-check rule covering anyone over 12 ordinarily present while children are in the building. Coverage spans Nanaimo, Duncan and the Comox Valley.

What we clean in a clinic

We clean waiting rooms, reception, corridors, staff areas, washrooms and the floors of treatment spaces. Touchpoints are listed by name in the scope — door plates, handles, chair arms, light switches, reception counters — and each carries its own frequency rather than sitting inside a general wipe. Instrument reprocessing, sterilisation and regulated waste stay with the practice, and we write that boundary into the scope so both sides are working from the same document.

Low-scent products and shared air

Waiting rooms and treatment spaces share air, so we use low-scent products as standard. UL's ECOLOGO certification for cleaning products runs to UL 2700, which sets limits on volatile organic compounds and restricts ingredients including PFAS and certain antibacterials. Green Seal's GS-37 standard caps glass cleaner VOC content at 1% by weight. Naming a standard in the scope is more useful than naming a brand.

Childcare, daycares and private schools

Screening rules are stricter here and they are worth knowing before a contract is signed. British Columbia's Child Care Licensing Regulation requires a licensee to obtain a criminal record check for anyone over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present on the premises while children are there. A daycare cleaned after hours sits in a different position from one cleaned during the day, and that difference belongs in the scope rather than in an assumption.

How a clinic quote is built

  1. WalkthroughTreatment spaces, waiting areas and washrooms measured by floor type, touchpoints listed by name, and the boundary between building cleaning and practice responsibility agreed.
  2. Written scope and quoteA task list by area and frequency, naming the touchpoint routine and the products standard, priced from that scope.
  3. Start date and handoverAccess and screening arranged before the first visit, the first visits attended, and the scope checked against the practice's own hours.

Local conditions

Clinic waiting rooms hold wet outerwear for half the year, and the carpet nearest the door takes the load. Matting depth matters more here than in most buildings, because a waiting room floor is the first thing a patient looks at while sitting still.

In practice

Situation
A 6,200 square foot dental clinic in Chemainus with four operatories, a carpeted waiting area and vinyl through the treatment side.
Complication
The building shares an entrance with two other tenants, so the front matting carried parking-lot grit onto the clinic's own floor all winter.
Resolution
Matting was extended to twelve feet inside the door, the vinyl moved to a weekly scrub, and the carpet to interim encapsulation between full extractions.

People also ask

Do cleaning staff need a criminal record check for a clinic?

For childcare settings, yes — British Columbia's Child Care Licensing Regulation requires a record check for anyone over 12 ordinarily present while children are in the building. For a general medical or dental office the requirement is not automatic, but a written record of who holds access to the premises is worth asking for regardless.

What products are used in a treatment space?

Low-scent, and specified by standard rather than by brand so the scope survives a product change. UL 2700 and Green Seal GS-37 both set ingredient and VOC limits for cleaning products, and either can be named as the requirement.

Can the same crew clean a clinic each visit?

That is the point of a consistent crew. A clinic has a touchpoint routine, an access arrangement and a boundary with practice-owned tasks, and every one of those is faster and safer with people who already know the building.

Book a walkthrough

Send the building type, rough square footage and how often it needs cleaning. A walkthrough gets booked around the hours the building already keeps, and the quote follows the written scope it produces.
